My Opinion: Reading

During this generation you are laughed at for saying you like to read or name-called. I find this unfair. Just like the people who target us have, reading is a hobby. Reading is something we enjoy, reading is something we love. So many amazing things come from reading. When I pick up a book I find myself taken to the world it's set in and getting to know a character, like it's your best friend. You can experience excitement and emotions with this character and connect with them. With a book that really connects to you, you find yourself in tears or left with a sense of satisfaction when you finish it. Most importantly, to me, is that you can find a character that becomes an inspiration because you can learn from them or find that strong-heroine or hero where you want to follow their journey. Reading is a chance to go to world's that exist in your imagination and you can still share with others who have read that book. It can create anything and what about the sense of imagination you gain from it? I have learnt so much from reading, from new words to help me in school when I'm writing an English essay or the fact that you can feel so many emotions. So, why do people clutch-their-stomachs with laughter when we say we like reading?

Without bookworms or people like us going out and reading books so many things wouldn't exist. What about films that people love but wouldn't have existed without the books being read and loved? I love to read and always have done. I started off with Enid Blyton and was so excited when I finished my first one hundred page book! Reading can also help you find friends: just like football training or music clubs. I have met so many people through our shared love of books and I have made so many friends through my blog because of this.  Some of the best pieces of art during this time are from books. Reading is cool! I feel like I should let the people laugh because we can learn so much from books to help us, like vocabulary and they don't understand that. They people who laugh at us miss out on the love we feel for a great books, or the excitement of an amazing built-up story as it reaches it ending. They miss out on the emotions we feel from the friendship we gain with the characters as we follow them on their journey or the hatred we feel at the villains. It's still wrong that we get teased for our interests or name-called because of them. Have you ever been called a 'nerd'? I would love to be able to read at lunch-times outside in the sun during the Summer but people laugh. In class people look at you like you've done something unacceptable if you take out a book. I've been reading during lessons lately, if I finish my work because I want too but I think that maybe, times will change and reading will become something you can openly talk about. I do that now. I find conversation with some girls in my class over books because of the existence of The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and Twilight. These big film-adaptions help because of the books become so well known so everyone has to read them! The message is though that reading is cool, just like football or being able to sing! People enjoy reading and people should except that! People miss out because reading has an uncool label. The truth is they are missing out. Reading, slowly, is getting more popular! Hopefully, more people will realise how fun reading can be!

  1. I admit that I don't read that often but when I do I really enjoy it!! I think that it shocking when people say that 'reading is out of fashion' and that reading isn't cool. I know people don't that read this often now but yes reading is cool!!!
My mum LOVES reading and has since she was a child but she doesn't get time because she is always busy. I think it is wrong that people get labelled as 'nerds' and so what??? They are just insecure and love getting the chance to pick on people. Keep up the reading Sophie
and don't stop what you love for the sake of others.
