What I'm Reading This Summer!

With the sweltering heat, I've resorted to writing late at night rather than mid-afternoon, spending the time reading Half Bad by Sally Green instead. School came to an end for the summer holidays last week, and being three books behind schedule for this years Goodreads Reading Challenge, I'm planning to tackle my ever-growing TBR over the next month. Escaping revision, I'm also hoping to read Game of Thrones, knowing I've got a few weeks to trek through those eight-hundred pages.

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Over the past few months, I've been waiting to read A Song of Ice and Fire(the first in the Game of Thrones series), having read/heard continuous praise in school and online. I'm currently preparing myself for the fictional deaths that the author seems to be famous for; especially after reading this article! As a person who loves world-building, my expectations are extremely high for this novel, as just from the map on the inside front cover it appears to be incredibly detailed. I'm so excited to finally be a part of this phenomenon!
Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
Both of these books have been on my shelf since the beginning of the year, and since it's been a few months since I last read a historical fiction novel, I've decided that it's time I finally pick these up. Set during WW11, it's a period of history that I'm really interested in, and the plot sounds brilliant.

The Caster Chronicles(Book 1-3)
by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and Half Bad by Sally Green
At the moment, I'm reading the first book on my list, Half Bad, which I mentioned above. I'm a huge fan of Fantasy novels, and it's been a while since I've read Beautiful Creatures,. It had a gothic-writing style that I adored reading, along with a fantastic set of characters(such as Ridley) so, I bought the next two books in the series, only for them to remain unread more than a year later. I should probably issue a book-buying ban to finally continue The Caster Chronicles!
Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
As much as I want to continue reading about the Casters, I've got a review copy of Heir of Fire - the next Throne of Glass novel - on my Kindle, which I'm going to be reviewing closer to publication date. It's a known fact that I've fallen in love with S J. Maas' writing over the past few years, and can't wait to continue reading about Celaena Sardothien, with the third book being my most highly anticipated release of 2014!

Also on my reading list are Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and The Memory Keepers by Natasha Ngan. Stephanie Perkins's novel is one I have been anticipating for one reason: finally being able to meet Etienne St. Clair! If there is one fictional character that I have heard mentioned more than Gus Waters this year online, it's the love-interest from her novel. Since Natasha Ngan first hinted at the synopsis of The Memory Keepers, I've been waiting to get my hands on a copy, as I really enjoyed her debut The Elites last summer.

I'm hoping to get through at least seven or eight of these:

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Code Name Verity & Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
Half Bad by Sally Green*
Beautiful Creatures, Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl/
Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
The Memory Keepers by Natasha Ngan

*Crossed out when read.

  2. Seems like you're in for a great summer! I think it took me a month to read the first Game of Thrones, which was really stressful because I had one book left to read on my Goodreads challenge and it was december!

Really curious to see what you think of these books.

I'll be a little all over the place with ARCs, Lola and the Boy Next Door, the Croak trilogy by Gina Damico, some Brandon Sanderson.. it's going to be good! :D

  3. I, too, am reading A Song of Ice and Fire and Rose Under Fire this summer! Code Name Verity is AMAZING - Sophie, you will LOVE - so I'm very excited to read Rose Under Fire! As for Game of Thrones, I started it a week ago and I'm about 600 pages in. It is *fantastic* - definitely lives up to my expectations of a complex plot and amazing world. And the deaths ... oh, the deaths. The maps inside are gorgeous, aren't they? ^_^

I also really want to read Anna and the French Kiss!!

  4. A Game of Thrones will most likely destroy you - good luck, Sophie! They're very graphic (violently and sexually) but they're amazing, nevertheless, and I really hope you enjoy the first book!
You haven't read Anna and the French Kiss yet?! YOU HAVE TO!

Hope you manage to read lots of these, Sophie!

  5. All the best of luck with your reading goals! I've made a video of some of the books I want to read this summer as well but since filming that I've realised that I really feel like reading fantasy books lately so I will try to tackle those books on my TBR pile...
