My Opinion: Halloween

This week, my blog's timetable is a little bit messed about but it's almost Halloween! Plus, this is my 100th Post and I just want to thank you all for getting me to this point too!

Halloween, a time to dress up, have fun and an excuse to eat too many sweets. Why is it that Halloween gets such a bad name? That mostly adults don't seem to trust us teenagers when it comes to Trick or Treat. They lock their doors, turn off the lights, refuse to answer. Halloween to them is a time of trouble making teenagers: knocking their doors and running away, throwing eggs at their windows, scaring them with masks. I understand that there are young people who think it's funny to ruin Halloween for everyone else but why should they be allowed? Certain people ruin everyone's fun! They give the whole of Halloween this label that it's only people causing trouble. The fact that all teenagers are out to cause trouble, on a dark night in October. Again, there's the whole issue with labelling. I've experienced people who look out of the curtains to see if it's people with their Halloween buckets, they close the curtains and don't bother to answer

Even when adults do answer the door, there are still people that decide it's funny to scare the elderly with their stupid masks. When I go out to Trick or Treat I avoid the houses of people I think will be scared when they hear a knock or if it would wake them up. I realise that Halloween has turned into this event that most people dread and hate.  I mean, there are people who always answer the door, comment on how great our costumes are and have sweets at the ready. It's just that Halloween is there to be celebrated. There are excuses, it does scare people but again it's only because of unsensible costumes.  Halloween is it over-rated? Yes. It is dangerous at times, in the middle of the night opening a door but what about just checking out the window and then opening a door if you're scared. Nobody trusts teenagers anymore, they expect to open a door and have an egg thrown at them. It's bad that we get this label on us. Unfair. They're are many ways where Halloween has been ruined by this bad perspective, which is true but then most of us are sensible. It can also actually be dangerous, you never know who your opening your door too, if you're going to get an egg thrown at you or whether your going to get frightened by teenagers and sometimes even adults with horrible masks. The worst thing is an innocent event has turned into a time of the year full of dread where nobody trusts people who are Trick or Treating and everyone knows in can be dangerous. Halloween has changed with the generations.

Has Halloween changed into an event people dread and hate?

  1. I don't do anything for Halloween as I have my own festival to celebrate to do with my religion/spirituality. I'll be inside with candles meditating instead! <3

  2. I love Halloween and it has always remained a favourite of year for me but people don't realise how dangerous it can be.
Teengaers scare little kids, egg houses - very scary things.

    1. I really enjoy Halloween and I completely agree that it can be very dangerous. It shows though, when people know and think that teenagers will throw eggs at them, try to scare young children and wonder who they will be actually opening the door too.

  3. I think adults are actually afraid of this time of year. Not because of it being spooky but you really have no idea who you are answering your door to. My aunt is literally moving to someone else's house just to get away from the trick or treaters.

    1. Exactly! You have no idea who will be at the door. It's a really bad perspective as well, that you can trust no one. Adults are definitely afraid and I think they have good reason to be although it really shows that no one trusts young people anymore.

  4. I find looking at different peoples' opinion to Halloween funny... especially since most don't know the origin. The origin is from my mum's religion- Pagan. The Pagan new year is called All Hallows' Eve, and is on, well, 31st October. I'm not a Pagan but I know quite a lot about it.
