Buried under my TBR Pile

As Book Bloggers, we have many things in common, and one of those things in the fact we are constantly buried under our TBR piles. From review copies, to library books, there is a  never ending lift of things that need to be read. The famous quote "So many books, so little time" is completely true in these situations. Recently, I wrote my wish-list, but now I am trying to limit the number of un-read books on my shelf. Not only because my dad seems a bit annoyed by the fact there are still five books from Christmas un-read, but I've been waiting to read them all for so long.

I decorated mine with coloured paper
Each month, I will be choosing a book from my TBR Jar, an idea that I found will watching some Book Vlogger Videos. This way, slowly but surely, I will be able to reduce the number of books that I still need to read and own. Also, if I have enough time, I will choose a second book that month to read. Making a TBR Jar is really simple, and a lot of fun. I got to ponder around in my room for a while selecting the books to start with, and for someone who normally plans out their reads, I get a surprise each month.

All you need to do is use an old jar, cup, or pot and decorate any way you want. Or you can leave it plain, it's really up to you! Take a piece of paper, and write down the names of ten books you would like to read sometime over the next few months, and have been waiting on your shelf for a few months. Cut them out, fold, and place it in your jar. When it's the beginning of the month, take out your jar and choose a piece of paper.

The books inside my jar are:

Now Is Good by Jenny Downham
The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifwater
Matched by Allie Condie
The Obsidian Mirror by Catherine Fisher
Finding Cherokee Brown by Siobhan Curham
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
The Awakening by Bryce Thomas(I met him in Waterstones a few weeks ago, and he signed the book for me)
Emerald Star by Jacqueline Wilson(I've never finished The Hetty Feather Trilogy!)

This month, the book my TBR Jar chose for me was Finding Cherokee Brown by Siobhan Curham, which I am really excited about. I loved Dear Dylan as it was funny, emotional and heart-warming and from already reading the first few pages, I can see Finding Cherokee Brown will be the same.

Since it was my Blogoversary Week at the time of my April Wrap-Up, last month I read:

The Selection by Kiera Cass( ****)
The Prince - Novella by Kiera Cass ( ****)
Shadows of the Silver Screen by Christopher Edge ( ***)
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee ( ***)
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness ( **** 1/2)

Book of the Month: The Selection by Kiera Cass)

You may be thinking, why? As I give it 1/2 a star less than The Knife of Never Letting Go. The reason this was my book of the month was because I devoured it. I couldn't put it down, and it was the surprise of how good it was. I was expecting The Knife of Never Letting Go to be amazing, but The Selection was a book I was drawn to by the cover.

  1. I was quite disappointed with T.M.I. and Matched, I just felt they didn't live up to their expectations, though I did love the characters in both books. I read the Selection this month too and I absolutely loved it! I'd love to see a review of it!x

  6. I like the TBR jar idea! I usually just go by mood when deciding, especially because most of the books on my TBR list are series so I have to set aside enough time to go through them all, but I'll keep this is mind! Hope it works out for you!

    1. I do like just being able to spend a little time deciding. I find that I have the same problem as you, with the series'. Like Matched!
      Thanks, Asti!

  7. Oh that sounds like such a great idea! I know I sometimes really struggle to decide what to read next, so I like the thought of picking at random. I hope you like The Raven Boys when you get around to it, by the way. ;) Loved that book!

    1. I always sway towards books people are talking about on Twitter, and buy new one's. If they're not read in the first few months, they're almost forgotten.

I'm really excited to read it! Thanks!

  9. This is an awesome and insanely cute idea. I'm definitely making one, because right now my TBR pile is pathetically under-read. I'm going through a rereading phase right now :S

    1. Thank you - I found It while watching Vlog videos. I love re-reading books, especially my favourites. It always annoys me when I forgot the small details.
      Hope you enjoy making one!

  11. Wow, I made the original book jar to cheer myself up after my laptop died and then suddenly loads of people were making them and oh my word, it has been AMAZING to see what everyone is doing with the idea! Have fun with your picks - I'm about to pick my fourth choice from mine and you can see how I'm doing on my blog, Alex in Leeds.
