Wednesday Writing: Where Fires Ignite

Writer's block is the bane of my existence, and no matter how many times I've attempted to write a blog post over the past few days. I've been unable to finish them. To co-exist with my inability to pick up a pen and draft a post, I'm also midway through  a reading-slump, although with revision kick-starting for the next exam season, it's no surprise that I can't even find the time to pick up a book! I did remember that there was a typed-up poem waiting in a Word document, having been there for months; I couldn't help but think it was aptly named for the release of Mockingjay: Part 1 tomorrow! It did take me a while to find, though, having been saved as 'Document 1', rather than it's name.

It's been a while since I've used this banner!
/

Wreathed in rags,
a corpse - almost,
with hungry, hollow
 eyes. Who prays.
Calling for Him,
waiting for answers.

For there's a dagger
that glints. Winks.
It's knife sharp.
Leaving ugly marks,
and battle scars.
Always, it wins.

//

Don't you bleed,
let crimson tears,
fall into cracks.
Shattered. Fragmented. Collapse.
Onto your knees,
try to plead.

For Mother's chair
lies there, discarded
amidst the rubble.
And broken dolls,
that you clutched,
between calloused fingers.

///

In dappled light,
fires ignite,
illuminating barren lands.
Don't look, dear,
whilst buildings fall,
only structures remain.

For unmarked graves
are found there,
beneath the canopy.
As smoke plummets,
in the distance,
away from here.

We breathe.

Poetry: Knife Point

I haven't written a poem in a while; even though I adore doing it. With only one exam left, I really wanted to post something, just while I catch up on some other work.

I hope you like it!

Sharp like a knife point,
Your strangled cry.
Red like a thorn-pricked finger,
There's blood on the tiles.

Cracked like a mirror,
Your memories; fragmented, they are.
Sketched like a storyboard,
Woven, those intricate lies.

Broken like a clock,
Your arms stretch out, stuck.
Bruises decorate them like a colouring book,
Bones snapped in two.

Pure like a child's innocence,
Your life, for a while.
Written like a saga,
No, don't tell another lie.

Trapped, a wild-animal,
Your writhing, your caught.
Hunted like a killer,
Though, that's what you are.

Trailed, like a criminal,
Your show; maybe your parade.
Broadcast, they will question,
Everything you don't stay.

Before I sign-off, I thought I'd just give you a quick book update! I'm currently reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and it must be one of my favourite reads so far this year! It's so much fun - and I love the whole fan fiction storyline!

Just a quick note to say this poem belongs to me - Sophie Louise - and should not be copied/used elsewhere without permission.

 So, what did you think?
Tell me in the comments!

Anti-Bulllying Blog Week(Day 6): Words are my Weapon

I want to begin this post by saying an over-whelming thank you to everyone who posted about their own experiences of bullying yesterday! I spent a lot of the night sobbing...but, also got a tweet from Andy Robb saying that his Guest Post has found it's way onto a school display wall in Guernsey. Along with my blog being a QR Code there, which means teenagers who are being bullied can find my posts!

The School display...decorate with coke bottles to match the
growing fan-base for the Coke-Bottle Theory!

This was a poem I wrote about Anti-Bullying, that came joint-second in a Poetry Competition that was held by author Siobhan Curham!

I let out a breath.
I take my final bow.
I wait for the applause.
I know it’s the end of this show.

I catch your eye.
I see you divert your gaze.
I am the one,
I won this race.

I was once the dartboard,
I was where you would strike,
I now hold the dart,
I would never let it fly.

I am fire, alive
I am uncontrollable
I am flickering flames,
I am the one that fights.

I smile,
I walk away,
I take a glance back,
I see you gaze.

I remember all of those comments,
I am reminded of what you used to say,
I remember the endless jokes.
I realise I always had a reply.

I held it in,
I did, until today,
I made sure you heard it,
I destroyed your parade.

I now walk through the corridor,
I hold my head high,
I use words as a weapon,
But only when I write.

I hope you liked it! I also want to say congratulations to Hawwa who came joint-second with me and Amber who actually won!

Poetry: The War

It was raging,
It was reckless,
As anger burned in flames,
Destruction crashing down.

Filling the silent street
with the sound of marching feet,
Filling it with battle cries,
and screams and shouts,
Obliterating everyone,
And everything in it's path.

Changing bright blue skies etched
with pure white clouds,
Changing them to the colour of gunpowder
as day sinks into night,
The streets speckles with a cruel red,
The land sheeted in darkness that it obeyed.

Burning memories of the past,
Burning memories of the future,
Making them into one's of love loss,
Of fat tears and families ripped apart.

Destroying life as we know it today,
Destroying the future we had tried to lay,
It's surreal how alive one thing can be,
Moving in time and rhythm although
it's not a melody.

This.
Filling the streets with blood and tears,
Changing the way I used to be,
Etching it's way in and burning my memories,
Destroying whom I meant to be.
The war who's ally was no more.

Hope you liked it! So sorry I can't write something more uplifting, especially with most of us being back under the pressures of school life.

Wednesday

Wednesday Writing: Life Itself

If you are a regular to the way things run on this blog, you may know I'm completely un-organised when it comes to when exactly I post a piece of my writing. Wednesday Writing is that time, every few weeks, where I do post something. As writing is what I love to do. Although it never makes much sense when re-reading it!

Moments are like waves crashing by the shore,
Once they reach the sand, there is only a certain amount of time until they leave.
They shine in the sunlight,
They crash on rocks,
They leave and never come back.

Memories are a book,
An un-putdownable thriller in which you can never turn back.
They make your heart-stop.
They make tears tumble down your face.
They capture you, and stay for ever.

Love is a lullaby,
A sweet sound that puts a spring in your step,
That at first, is beautiful.
That moves into deeper, more intricate verses.
That has a chorus you'll remember but, that must end.

It can't fail.
Laughter,
A fairground, one that is calling for me.
That makes you giddy.
That can hide your fear.
That shows you care, or don't in the case of a falling friend.

Life is this,
A scrapbook made up of all in one.
That, with one piece missing, fails to be.
That, without moments, there are never memories.
That, without love, there is never laughter.
That has no explanation but I can say I tried my best.

Sunday

Silence

A dark poem:

Silence.
That is all that surrounds me.
Cowering in the shadows,
There is only the darkness.

Breathe.
A pain in my chest,
I try to take a breath,
But the intake is piercing.

Pain.
I cry out,
There is nobody to hear,
Nobody to help me in these final pleas

Lost
I can't see,
Nowhere to go,
Or nothing to see,

Thoughts.
There's no need to think.
No need to feel.
But it's still haunting me.

Love.
No need for this,
The cause of the pain,
The most worrying thing.

Death.
Is this now the end,
With nothing left,
Hold on.

Memory.
Are there any left?
To think of now,
To remember.

Finale,
The climax of this,
It will all come to an end,
In Silence

Christmas Poem

In just one week it will be Christmas Day! The lights are shining brightly on the tree, Christmas specials are being played over-and-over on television and we are all singing along to our favourite Christmas songs. With my Christmas shopping done, Christmas cards delivered, there is just the waiting left. As I am feeling so festive, here's a Christmas poem:

Christmas Tree is standing tall,
I'm admiring the lights,
Snow is falling all around me,
The flakes landing in my hair

I'm wrapped up warm in my winter's coat,
My breath visable in the air,
I can feel the Christmas Cheer around me,
It's everywhere

Festive tunes are playing loud,
Specials repeated over again,
I can't help singing along,
As the magic comes alive

Mine Pie's left out for Old Saint Nic,
He's on the way,
In his bright red jacket and,
sturdy black boots,
The Reindeers leading the way

All the children are excited,
In every corner of the world,
Remember that feeling,
When you know it's Christmas Day

I'm not forgetting the real reason,
While opening my calender door,
Hanging up my stocking,
Christmas lights.

They light up the night.

Merry Christmas!
I hope you like the new look!

Poetry: Unique

Yesterday, I got the chance to meet the amazing Kate Maryon(author of Shine, Glitter, A Million Angels and A Sea of Stars) at the Hay Winter Festival. She was so lovely and kind but also gave so much great advice that I will definitely use when writing, to picture my character and ask them questions but not think about them. By the end of the Workshop, I had a character I knew better than myself. Hay-On-Wye was so beautiful, picturesque and was like stepping back in time. I passed a sign and it is actual nicknamed the 'town of books' and I soon found out why. Over thirty bookshops in one small town, one even three stories. Kate asked us if we had ever thought about ourselves as a gift. I never had but anyway, here's a poem:

I want to be seen
Not as what I look like
Not as what I do
Not as who I come across
But who I am

I want to know
Not about what you think
Not what you're guessing
Or your opinion
But who you are

I want to know
Not about the lies
Not about the ideas
Not about the choices
But the truth

I need to know
Not what I like
Not what I dislike
Not what I look like
But who I am

I need to know
That I am myself
That I am who I want to be
That I am happy
Unique

What do you think?
Also, have you ever visited the 'town of books'?
I big thank you to Kate Maryon for doing such an amazing workshop! It was great to meet you!

Poem: Free

I literally just wrote this and quickly too so I hope you like it!!

Take a deep breath,
Getting ready to run,
Nothing can stop me,
This moment has come

The thought of you,
Waiting for me,
The thought of the chance,
I just want to be free

The wind flows through my hair,
Stinging my face,
Through the meadow I run,
Keeping my pace

The grass has grown high,
Horses run past side-by-side,
The clouds are high in the sky,
Sky blue like the tide

Flowers are growing,
Each colour bright,
Every petal different,
Though I keep sight

The vision is there,
I know where I need to be
So I carry on running faster
I want to be free

Thursday

Poem: No Thoughts!

This month it's NaNoWriMo(National Novel Writing Month) and after hearing a lot about it I've decided to give myself a challenge and have a go! The challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.(1,666 words a day). Anyway, this is a new poem I wrote called No Thoughts:

I walk down the corridor,
Head held high,
Who cares what they think of me?
I've got nothing to hide

The stares are piercing,
Their eyes trained on mine,
I keep walking forward,
My heart pounding within me

I know what thoughts,
Are running through their minds,
Why just stand there and gawp?
Speak your mind instead.

The force is erupting,
Flowing through my bones,
The impulse in my veins,
My anger building

That sinister smile,
Still stuck on your face,
No care for me whatsoever
Or who I am at all

Are you taking part in Na No Wri Mo?
Sound off below!

Tuesday

POEM: The Inevitable!

I try to push back the inevitable,
 Knowing this is it,
I'm on my own.

With nothing left to fight for,
With no chances,
No hope.

I'm overcome by the darkness,
The depression that surrounds us all,
I've lost the fight.

I can feel the restraints,
but have no liability,
I keep still,
Keep silent.

I have dealt no blame,
Just fought for a future,
I will never get a chance to live.

I take a deep breath,
Waiting,
Not knowing what's coming next.

Thoughts run through my mind,
Worries,
Questions I will never know the answers too.

I can hear a clock,
Ticking away,
Each minute,
Each second,
Closer to the inevitable.

Hope you liked my poem!
Tell me what you think in the comments below!

Wednesday

POEM: My World...

I look out of the open window,
What do I see,
Nothing,
A world where nothing exists,
Where no one is hear to save me from my cries,
Because my world is empty without you.

Tears form in my eyes,
As I remember our times,
Walking hand in hand,
And watching time pass by,
But it doesn't matter anymore,
Because world is empty without you.

Days pass,
Weeks,
Months,
But there is no sun seeping through the dark clouds,
They just hang over head,
Shadowing me,
Because my world is dark without you.

They say troubles come and go,
But mine just stay the same,
As the storm clouds stay,
And threaten to rain on me forever,
And stop the sun shining through,
Because my world is dark without you,

My thoughts are full of nothingness,
There's an empty space,
Where I struggle to remember,
And no one stays forever,
I stumble upon the emptiness,
Because my world is full of struggles without you

I don't understand which way to go,
Who to turn to,
Who to trust,
Where nobody connects,
Or feels my pain,
Because my world is full of struggles without you

One day I get a glimpse,
Of someone in the distance,
His eyes light up,,
Then my world is full again
and
 My thoughts are free
Because my world is complete with you

Hope you liked my poem and if you could, understood it because I literally just typed that out!
