Today is another of my opinion posts but most importantly Na No Wri Mo is still going. I'm actually looking forward to the end because I need to go back and change a few things but I don't have the time if I want to complete my Word Count. Not only this but it takes up so much time, I've only got another 1175 words left to reach 18,000 words(my new goal) so I'm really looking forward to finishing this.
I always think about the pressure that is forced upon young people at the moment. We are being forced to take on so much responsibility, we have to leave other things behind. As an example we are told in school that we need to think about our future continuously but how are we supposed to be clear on what we want to do for the rest of our lives at our age? I have some ideas but I'm not certain. Not only are we being forced by communities but society. Do you ever go into a clothes shop and think "Why are they selling that for girls out age?" or read a magazine and think about "Why are they discussing these topics?". I do. I feel like our society around us don't allow us the freedom teenagers used to have. We have to deal with constant pressure that takes away the whole point of being 'young'.
Have you ever seen in clothes shops the heeled-shoes that you can buy for five year-old's?. I think this is wrong. It carries on through our childhood, society is forcing us too grow up too fast. I mean some of the items they sell are too old for younger children. Why would you want to grow up that fast? Makeup is fun at a young age but the media and what's around children and people our age is the idea we always have to look good. That there's a certain way we should always look but there isn't.
The government are always reducing age limits for exams, we don't have the chance to enjoy our childhood. The responsibility for revision is huge. It's like they want us to grow up and quickly. We're not allowed to have fun anymore we need to be responsible at all times. We are looked upon to be role models as we get older but everyone makes mistakes. I mean, we grow up too fast and we miss our childhood, we miss the time that we make the most mistakes. We miss the time that we learn so much about ourselves and who we are. It's the time before we are on our own and have to face the problems everybody else faces in life.
It's just that everything is so serious. The media is always bringing the message that losing weight and being thin is a good thing so we get hooked on eating healthy and losing weight. People around me are experiencing 'relationships' but all I can think of is how they don't need boys because we are young. There's no need to be worrying about boys. Like I said, it's society. We are constantly reminded of the news and what's happening which worries us. Young People have to experience things and face things we shouldn't be at my age I thought I would be able to go and have fun. To just be free. The only thing is growing up brings on so much responsibility. We are told to act like adults everyday, constantly reminded about the role models we should be. No wonder there are so many problems in our generation because everyone puts too much pressure on us. I don't want to face these pressures, I just want to enjoy what's supposed to be the best time of my life.
What do you think?
Are we growing up too fast?
